Historical Butchertown developed in the late 1700s as home to one of the first mills in Jefferson County, just east of downtown Louisville. Several decades later, in the early 1820s, German immigrants settled in Butchertown, bringing their butcher trade and the flavor of an urban identity to the neighborhood.
